northern lights

This lamp was inspired by the northern lights and my attempt to keep things that you can’t actually hold. By touching a button on the left-side of the box you can see your own, but ephemeral, northern light. The pattern is random, so you won’t get the same once twice, but you can make as many as you want.

Using Rhino, I 3D printed a sinuous path, resembling the way the lights look from the ground. I built and enclosure for the “bulb” and created a sloth to put 21 neo-pixels above it. A photocell acts as the button and its values help creating the random effect. Everything is powered by an Arduino uno.
